104 Days To Go!

Here are a few Team 545 Updates

1. Recruits. We have already had a great response for new recruits! We have new recruits for full triathlon and the relay. Welcome new 545ers and keep the recruits coming!

2. Training. The plan for this year is to have official Team 545 training sessions starting at The Lot on Lake Calhoun every Wednesday at 6 PM. We also plan to schedule a few long bike rides on weekends. That means you need to set up a personal training schedule also....get out and run today!

3. Charity. Thanks for the feedback on the charity. Early indications are that we will be raising money for a scholarship at a local, as yet undecided, school. The idea is to create a "Team 545 Triathlon Scholarship" that we will fund on an annual basis. The Executive Committee likes this idea because it will have pretty big impact on the recipient's life, rather than making a somewhat small donation to a huge charity like we have in the past. Anyway, we will have more on this idea as we iron out the details.

4. Treasurer. I drew an awesome picture of the Treasurer, see above.

Get Some Good Shoes....

One of your first training steps should be getting shoes that fit your feet and running style. Go to a running store and have a salesperson analyze your gait. Seriously, do it. It will help big time.

Your running gait is either pronated, neutral or supinated....no idea what that means? Check out this link....

By the way, don't get the glove shoes above, they won't work.

107 Days - Lets Roll

Lets face facts - we have 107 days until the LifeTime Fitness triathlon. That's right, 117 freakin' days! After a brief panic, the Executive Committee has decided its time to get training, let yesterday. We have scheduled the first official training session for next Wednesday, March 31. We will take off from "The Lot" at Lake Calhoun at 6 PM (see below for a link to "The Lot"). The first session will be a quick run around Lake Calhoun (or two, we'll see), followed by a strategy session at Noodles. This is the earliest we have ever started training, and is concrete evidence of our commitment to making the Team 545's Fifth Anniversary triathlon times the best ever. So get there if you can! Other housekeeping items:

1. Remember to check this blog for information on training and other information.

2. We are looking for new recruits this year, so get recruiting and if you know someone interested, let us know! Remember, you can do the short course, be a member of a relay team on either the short or long course, or just be a spectator, so no excuses.

3. If you ordered a 5th Anniversary sweatshirt, they are in. Contact President to pick up.

4. We will be doing a charity thing this year, if you have ideas for a charity, let us know.

5. If you want off this email list or know someone to add, let us know.

Gopher Upset Predicted!!!!!

From EPPN's Andy Katz:

No team in this bracket has had to deal with more issues than No. 11 Minnesota. The Gophers thought they would have Royce White, Trevor Mbakwe and Al Nolen the entire season and be a potential Big Ten title contender. But Mbakwe and White never got a chance to play due to legal issues, while Nolen was bumped midway through the season due to academics. Still, the Gophers found a way to bookend the season with an early win over Butler combined with beating all the top Big Ten teams in Ohio State, Michigan State, Wisconsin and Purdue. No. 6 Xavier is a trendy pick to advance into the Sweet 16, but if I'm looking for a double-digit seed in the bottom half of the West I'm going with No. 11 Minnesota.

Man the Twolves are Bad

From the Sports Guy's latest mailbox on ESPN.com:

Q: In his recent letter to season-ticket holders enticing us to renew or upgrade our Wolves 2010-2011 tickets for up to 50 percent off, your nemesis David Kahn gives reasons the team is heading in the right direction, including that the team has built "a coaching staff that has collected 15 championship rings." At first I thought, "Wow, that's impressive." Then I started thinking: OK, I get that Kurt Rambis has four rings as a player and two as an assistant coach and that Bill Laimbeer has two as a player. But where did Dave Wohl, Reggie Theus and J.B. Bickerstaff collect seven more championship rings? Then a knot grew in my stomach as I thought, "No! He wouldn't! He couldn't!" I looked up the coaching bios and found that Dave Wohl was an assistant coach on a Lakers championship team, which I guess is legit. However, as best as I can tell the other six championships include Wohl's two Ivy League titles as a player at Penn almost 40 years ago, Theus' WAC tournament title as a coach at New Mexico State, and -- yes, my worst fears were realized -- Laimbeer's three championships as coach of the WNBA Detroit Shock! Now I feel even more slimy with Kahn as my team's GM. He makes me want to scream, William Shatner-like, "Kahn!!! Kahn!!!"
-- Pete, St., Louis Park, Minn.

SG: Look on the bright side: You get to wait another two-plus years for someone shooting 30 percent in a Euro league right now.
