Halloween Tailgate!

Listen tailgaters...there just ain't no way to sugar coat it, the last two weeks have been rough for the Maroon and Gold...we ain't even going to get into details except to say that we can get the season back on track with a win on Saturday! We CAN WIN the next three games at home and make the last two weeks a distant memory!

So........

The Gophers/Michigan State game at The Bank is this Saturday at 7 PM....and its Halloween night! It is time to start getting prepped and pumped up for another great tailgate!

We plan to get to the lot by 3:30 PM. Since its Halloween, we will have some pumpkins to carve up and just might be bobbing for apples (it will sound like a better idea after a few cocktails, trust us)! We've heard rumors of some people costuming it up for the tailgate and game, not required but would be awesome. Costume contest anyone?

As usual, Dumpy the Amazing Tailgating Van will be there, two grills will be rocking and we'll have an empty iced down cooler. If you want to bring something to throw on the grill or in the cooler, do it!

Here are the game notes for your reading enjoyment:

Here is a map to the "Ski-U-Mah" tailgate lot...Dumpy will be as close to the fence at the intersection of 23rd Avenue and 6th Street as we can get.

Doink's Stadium Resume

For those of you who are unfortunate enough to actually spend time with me socially you have heard me talk a lot about Doink's stadium resume.

Well this afternoon actually put together a first draft....might have missed a location or two.

Looking it over actually not very impressive. Will be adding Kinnick Stadium in Iowa City this fall.

My two favorite locations have been Lambeau Field and Fenway Park.

Would love to hear what other people's favorite sporting locations have been.

Doink!

At this point I'm just kinda, sorta, sneaky looking forward to the end of the football season and the beginning of the hoops season. Don't tell anyone.

NFL Power Rankings

NFL Power Rankings
1New Orleans Saints
Last Week: 1
Only once in the history of the awards has the same team produced both the league's offensive and defensive players of the year, withJamal Lewisand Ray Lewis of the 2003 Baltimore Ravens accomplishing the feat. But after that remarkable Saints comeback win in Miami last Sunday, I'd say quarterbackDrew Breesand safetyDarren Sharper have a great shot of joining the Lewis's. Both veteran Saints know how to hang up some points.
2Indianapolis Colts
Last Week: 2
With six of Indy's next nine games at home, we're going to start hearing plenty of speculation about the Colts' latest run at a perfect season. So here goes: There's the annual showdown against New England on tap in Week 10 at Indy, a Week 11 trip to Baltimore that could be tricky if the Ravens defense rebounds, and a Week 14 visit from Denver. But those look like the only remaining challenges of the first order.
3Denver Broncos
Last Week: 4
If I told you before the regular season that one of the teams involved in the Week 8 Broncos-at-Ravens game would feature the NFL's most dominating defense and a coolly efficient quarterback who simply does not turn the ball over, would you have believed I was talking about Denver and not Baltimore? Me neither.
4Minnesota Vikings
Last Week: 3
Despite some pre-draft question marks, the Vikings gambled in 2007 and tookAdrian Peterson in the first round. Despite some pre-draft question marks, the Vikings gambled in 2009 and tookPercy Harvinin the first round. I'd say both of those gambles have paid off rather handsomely. That settles it. I'm takingBrad Childresswith me to Vegas.
5New England Patriots
Last Week: 6
It feels utterly weird to write this, but the Patriots actually feel like an under-the-radar team these days. The road losses to the Jets and Broncos made them look downright vulnerable, and the blowouts against the winless Titans and Bucs haven't really earned them much respect. In other words, Bill Belichick and the boys have us exactly where they want us. Not paying close enough attention.
6Cincinnati Bengals
Last Week: 10
Here's a little statistical formula that's far more accurate when it comes to analyzing quarterback play than the NFL's obtuse passer rating mumbo-jumbo: If your QB has a game where he throws for more touchdowns than incompletions, he's had a good day. The Bengals'Carson Palmer had five of the former and just four of the latter against Chicago on Sunday.
7Pittsburgh Steelers
Last Week: 8
The defending champs enter their bye weekend on one of the quieter four-game winning streaks I can ever recall, but that was a headline victory against the undefeated Vikings. It was the defense that had to save the day with those two fourth-quarter touchdown returns, but Pittsburgh always wins a game or two a year by flexing its muscle on that side of the ball. This is a Steelers team that's still feeling its way a bit, but 5-2 is nothing to quibble with at the break.
8Philadelphia Eagles
Last Week: 9
Who said midseason trades rarely amount to much in the NFL? Newly acquired Eagles linebackerWill Witherspoonplayed like a guy who had just been handed a new lease on life against the Redskins Monday night, and I guess in a football sense, he had. Going from winless St. Louis to contending Philadelphia ought to get the juices flowing, or there's something amiss to start.
9Arizona Cardinals
Last Week: 12
We don't know much about new Cardinals defensive coordinatorBill Davis, but I've got a feeling that's going to change. Arizona's swarming defense was really the story of the game the other night against the Giants, and the Cardinals are getting the job done against the rush better than anyone in the league (67.5 yards per game, 3.0 per carry). The passing game used to be king in Arizona, but these newly minted top 10-dwelling Cardinals are a one-dimensional team no more.
10New York Giants
Last Week: 5
This isn't the version of Eli Manning you want heading into Philadelphia. I expect Eagles defensive coordinatorSean McDermottto try to keep No. 10 good and rattled, with an assortment of blitzes and pressure packages. For the first time since November 2007 or so, Manning looks hesitant, unsure of where he wants to go with the ball, and just generally out of sync. Maybe a road game will re-focus the Giants offense, because New York usually thrives on the road. It had better, or the Giants will have their first three-game losing streak since Weeks 11-13 of 2006.

NFL Pity party

Have you seen the Saints Schedule? NFL pity party. Hey NFL, Why don't you just hand them the NFC South on a Silver Platter. Hopefully Moss can shut them up in Week 12 before we get there for the NFC Championship.

Can't wait to steamroll them in New Orleans this year. Cry Cry Cry.

Jalapeno

I was at Jimmy John's today and ordered a Beach Club (a "Number 12")....the woman misunderstood and made a Bootlegger (a "Number 14") instead. I said no big deal I'm fine with the old Number 14. "Oh I'm so sorry," she said and offered my some free peppers on the side. I thought, geez I guess their free so yeah I'll take the peppers. She brought over a side of jalapeno peppers on a napkin. For some reason I proceeded to load them on my sandwich and then immediately house the sandwich. I've been paying for that decision all afternoon....multiple trips to the you know what....burning....that kind of stuff.

Was this chick trying to torture me or seriously trying to make me feel better by giving me this free side of peppers?

I agree this loss doesn't bother me that much

I am so sick of the media making darlings of the Packers. They suck. Aaron Rodgers is a big puss. He will be put to the ground a dozen times on Sunday...... Oh, Brett Favre wasn't nice to me when I was his backup.... Cry cry cry.

Shut your mouth Packer fans. It's over Sunday. Go ahead and do some stupid hick thing like make a big #4 waffle or whatever you plan on doing. Like the Silver Fox cares. Green Bush is a terrible place to live.

I'm already getting ready for the Saints/Vikes NFC Championship Showdown.

P.S. (See Below) Great Look.

The 50 Biggest Movies Of 2010

The films most likely to dominate the box-office charts next year

http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article6885334.ece#cid=OTC-RSS&attr=1063710

#49 Red Dawn
The guilty pleasure 1980s classic is back. This time, instead of the rather implausible plot of teenagers fighting back against Soviet invaders, we have the slightly more implausible plot of teenagers fighting back against Chinese invaders. Captain Kirk’s dad (and future Thor) Chris Hemsworth leads the charge against those pesky reds, and former stuntman Dan Bradley steps bravely into the director’s chair.

#39 Wall Street 2
Michael Douglas’s unscrupulous stock market trader, jailed at the end of Wall Street, has served his 20 year sentence and is back on the street. It’s 2008 and he wants to prevent a global financial crash. We all know how that turns out. He’ll need an impressionable young trader to explain things to so that those of us who don’t know anything about big business (and that includes quite a few hedge fund managers) can understand the plot. Cue Shia LeBoef, who seems to specialise in these roles. It will be interesting to see whether the global financial hullabaloo will sharpen interest in this belated sequel, or whether the overdose of real financial news we’ve been exposed to of late will make Wall Street 2 an irrelevance.

#7 The Expendables
It’s the best 1980s action film ever made, albeit 20 years late. Sylvester Stallone recruits former rivals Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger, alongside upstarts Jet Li and Jason Statham, for a story about a crack team of mercenaries sent on a mission to terminate a South American warlord. This August every red-blooded male action movie fan will be reminding their missus that they endured Sex And The City 2, and buying a pair of tickets for this testosterone-drenched romp.(and Yes that is Drago)

#6 The A Team
The fondly remembered adventure comedy series will need no introduction for readers over 30. Original cast member Mr.T still exploits his BA Baracus character (who in fairness was a thinly disguised T anyway) for TV commercials. Liam Neeson heads the new team with Jessica Biel and Watchmen star Patrick Wilson coming along for a ride in that van. There’s a suggestion that this modern take on the 1980s favourite will have a harder edge but you should still expect preposterous disguises, corny quips and wildly inaccurate gunfire. Not forgetting some sort of hastily-improvised vehicle.

#1 Iron Man 2
Everyone who saw Iron Man, with the possible exception of Terence Howard, is aching to see the sequel. The 2008 superhero flick maintained a fine balance between the sombre tone of The Dark Knight and more fluffy comic book fare such as Fantastic 4. Mickey Rourke is the cybernetically enhanced villain Whiplash and Scarlett Johansson appears as Black Widow, a Russian assassin who may also be joining Gwyneth Paltrow as potential love interest. Don Cheadle replaces Terence Howard as Colonel James ‘Rhodey’ Rhodes, who later becomes Iron Man’s heavily armed back up, War Machine

Awesome Time....

These guys had an awesome time this weekend....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tZmDWltBziM&feature=related

The whole neighborhood knows they had an awesome time.

Do you think KFC is still open?

We lost but.....

First of all I don't even really feel bad about this loss....should have won the game; didn't plan to go undefeated anyway.

Second, we beat the Steelers in the Superstars tug of war championship in 1975 so who gives a crap.

Seriously you gotta watch this....

Doink's NFL Dunks Week 7

Doink sitting at his father in-law's kitchen table writing Week 7's Dunks after spending yesterday in the Horseshoe cheering on the Gophers. Couple notes on how ugly the Gophers looked yesterday in person....it was so obvious after Decker went down with an injury that nothing was going to work. Doink likes Gray getting more plays as he is our 2nd best athlete and needs to play ahead of the awful Webber. Brewster needs to start producing otherwise he is going to be gone after year 4 next year.

Also Doink wondering if this is his year for betting after only betting Florida -12 in the 2H last night....Tebow throws another pick 6 up 16 from his own 3 and then a roughing the passer penalty negates a Florida defensive TD that would have covered. Note that Urban Meyer sorta through his new offensive coordinator under the bus after the game last night. The new guy is AWFUL compared to current Miss St. head coach Mullen.

Also Doink DVR the Vikings game as he won't be home until 1:30pm central so expect Doink to ignore the entire world until he catches up on the game.

On to this weeks games.

Doink ATS Week 6: 6-8
Doink ATS YTD: 47-43
Doink's Weekly Plays Week 6: 1-2
Doink's Weekly Plays YTD: 17-12
Doink's ATS Lock: 1-0
Doink's ATS Lock YTD: 2-3

Doink's ATS Lock (YTD 2-3): Bears Pick

Doink's NFL Week 7 Plays (in order of confidence): YTD 17-12
1. Bears pick
2. Falcons +4.5
3. Packers -9

Chargers -5.5 at Chiefs - Chargers have been extremely hit or miss this year and Doink really hates Norv Turner. Chiefs have been looking better and better the past few weeks and are always tough at home. Chiefs

Colts -14 at Rams - Rams winless but have been much improved on offense the past few weeks and almost won in Jacksonville last week. Manning been unreal but 14pts on the road is a lot. Rams

Bears Pick at Bengals - Doink becoming more and more impressed with Chicago especially when they can get out of the way of Lovie Smith. There are about 6 - 7 NFL coaches who Doink just struggles bet on: Childress, Reid, Turner, Smith, Jauron, Zorn. Bengals are not as good as advertised. Bears

Packers -9 at Browns - Packer fans feeling better after trouncing the Lions but O Line issues still won't go away. Browns offense is just horrendous. Packers

Vikings +6 at Steelers - What a collapse in the fourth quarter last week by Doink's beloved purple. No Winfield this week against a very potent passing attack where weather will NOT be an issue. Favre will face more pressure this week than any other week. Doink sees a lot of pressure on Big Ben as well. This hurts. Steelers

Patriots -15 at Bucs (London) - Another awful defense for Brady to look all world against. Bucs young QB will struggle. London games have been close in the past this will be different. Patriots

49ers +3 at Texans - Doink loves the Texans as underdogs with their high powered offense. Gore is back for SF which is huge against a team that has struggled to stop the run ex last week in Cincy. 49ers

Jets -6 at Raiders - Another east going west game, which Doink whiffed on with the Eagles last week. Can we please get off the Sanchez bandwagon....he has been awful. Russell here are some blitzes but look for Fargas to have a HUGE game with Jenkins gone for the year. Raiders

Bills +7 at Panthers - Look for about 300 yards rushing from Carolina against an awful Bills defense. Hard to bet with Delhomme but the Bills are plain awful. Panthers

Saints -6 at Dolphins - Brees in domes and good weather equals unstoppable. Dolphins running game is best in league. Playing in Miami is difficult because of weather. Dolphins

Falcons +4.5 at Cowboys - Doink not sure why Dallas gets so much love from the gambling community. Look for Ryan to gauge the Dallas defense. Doink's concern here is Dallas just runs it down the Falcons throats similar to New England a few weeks back. Falcons

Cardinals +7 at Giants - Doink struggles with betting on the Cardinals....especially when they are underdogs. Warner looks all world or just plain awful. Giants

Eagles -7 at Redskins - Talk about a debacle in DC....over / under on delay of game penalties with new play calling system in DC this week...has to 3. Eagles mad after imploding in Oakland last weekend. Eagles

Doink!
